BioSac for cement marks a French ‘first’

18 March 2010

A biodegradable and compostable cement bag just launched, marks a ‘first’ for the French market.

Biosac was developed by Limagrain Céréales Ingrédients (LCI) with the Barbier, Mondi and Ciments Calcia groups.

It is made from LCI's biolice, a ‘unique’ combination of various cereal fractions and a biodegradable polymer.

In France, the bagged cement market generated nearly 35,000 tonnes of packaging waste in 2008, disposed of in landfill or incinerated.

BioSac gives a ‘technically innovative way to solve the problems of managing this type of packaging’, says Nathalie Gorce, marketing manager for biolice at LCI.

BioSac conforms to the EN 13 432 standard for packaging that biodegrades and is suitable for composting.
