Biodegradable beer cups make debut

1 September 2004

The "NatureWorks@RPC" cups are manufactured from PLA, the maize-based polymer that degrades in industrial compost facilities, under a joint branding venture between RPC and Cargill Dow. They are said to be ideal for a range of cold (up to 45ºC) food and beverage applications, a characteristic recognised by the Grolsch brewery, which was responsible for all beer supplies at a live event in Amsterdam on the country's Queen's Day holiday.

The order was completed in a short lead-time thanks to "excellent cross-site co-operation" between RPC Tedeco-Gizeh sites, with the product developed and produced in Bouxwiller and sold through its Benelux sales team.
