Benson Box acquires PDG

21 June 2006

Benson Box, the independent manufacturer of printed folded carton packaging, has completed its second acquisition of 2006.

The company’s purchase of Tyneside-based specialist packaging printer Print Design & Graphics adds annual turnover of £16.5m (€ 24m) to that of Benson Box and Crewe-based printed folding carton and patient information leaflet producer Medica Packaging, acquired in January this year. Together the three create a business with sales of around £55m (€ 79.9m), principally into the food and pharmaceutical sectors.

Much of production at PDG is for the UK chilled food sector, with the company having broadened its offer to include innovative tray and lidding solutions alongside more traditional board packaging. Clients include convenience food manufacturers Greencore and Campbell’s. The company employs 158 at its 80,000 ft2 factory. Benson says jobs at the site are safe, with further growth envisaged. PDG’s joint founders and managing directors Gordon Scorer and Dave Gillander will remain in place.
