Bell-shaped bottle signals whisky-making craftsmanship

20 November 2006

Diageo has repacked Bell's Extra Special Blended Scotch whisky to broaden the brand's appeal.

The glass bottle, developed by O-I from a concept by Bloom Design, incorporates an attention-grabbing bell shape into the neck, emphasising the time and care involved in creating blended Scotch whisky.

The new look is inspired by Bell's decanters, introduced during the 1930s, which have since become collectors' items. Colin Mason, O-I spirits new product development manager, says: “The unique neck design was intricate and timescales were tight, but O-I's experience in fast track new product development ensured the project ran smoothly.”

Four bottle sizes (700 and 750ml, 1 and 1.5 litres) - all with the same design theme - are being produced at O-I's Alloa, Scotland glass plant.
