UK-based glass manufacturer Beatson Clark is to begin production of a premium 750ml-size beer bottle it has created for the Brooklyn Brewery in New York, USA.
One of the most prominent of the new wave of craft brewers in the US, Brooklyn Brewery operates the country’s largest programme of refermentation of beer in the bottle.
The brewer will use the new 750ml amber glass bottle from Beatson Clark, capped with a champagne style cork and wire closure, for products in its Big Bottles range, including Local 1, Local 2, and Sorachi Ace.
It will also use the new bottle, which features the brewery logo embossed on both sides, for special releases including Black Ops, Wild Streak, and Silver Anniversary Lager – Brooklyn Brewery was founded in 1988.
“We wanted a custom-made bottle to properly showcase the 100% bottle refermented beers we are making,” says Brooklyn Brewery general manager Eric Ottaway.
“When we turned to Swedish distributor Blueglass - Sofomec, they worked with Beatson Clark to provide a competitively priced but super premium bottle. We’re delighted with the end result.”
According to its sales and marketing director Lynn Sidebottom, Beatson Clark specialises in small production runs for niche products and can generally run a quantity of approximately 500,000 units, depending on bottle size, for a completely new design.
“A more cost-effective option, with reduced mould costs, is to emboss a brewery’s name or logo on a standard container from our general sale range,” says Lynn Sidebottom.
“This allows us to produce in even smaller volumes: our minimum order for embossing standard bottles is around 150,000 units when run at the same time as the plain version of the container.”
