Barrier qualities get refreshed

12 December 2003

Stock Vital, owned by Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz, is using a transparent AmGuard 500ml multi-layer PET bottle for its new product line, Carpe Diem fresh. Three drinks, Kombucha, Ginkgo and Kefir, have been launched under the name 'fresh' – or 'refresh' in the UK.

Carpe Diem is the first commercial product to incorporate the latest base technology for carbonated beverages from Amcor. The company has developed the low hybrid base, a new six-footed base which is said to combine the "sleek, smoothness of a champagne base with the structural strength of the so-called petaloid base".

In addition, Amcor says Stock Vital wanted the best barrier qualities available to ensure a 9-month shelf life for the drinks. After substantial testing, the company concluded that Amcor's AmGuard multi-layer bottle, which features the company's Bind-Ox multi-layer active scavenger technology, best matched these requirements.
