Asda is first UK retailer to adopt PantoneLIVE

29 January 2014

X-Rite and Pantone have announced that UK retailer Asda will implement PantoneLIVE, a cloud-based colour service, throughout its global supply chain.

According to the companies, part of the Danaher Corporation, PantoneLIVE allows Asda to improve operational efficiencies by standardising on a single platform and managing digital access rights to facilitate colour communication across packaging materials and suppliers.

“It is mission critical for a large retailer such as Asda to achieve better and more consistent colour results across different categories, suppliers and regions,” says Dr Sonia Megert, vice president of the Pantone Digital Business unit at X-Rite/Pantone.

“Spectral data for Asda’s main brand colours are stored securely in the PantoneLIVE cloud, thus helping reduce colour variation in the production process, ensuring their colours are correct every time, on every packaging material.”

Asda, a wholly owned subsidiary of Wal-Mart, will begin to deploy PantoneLIVE immediately, with its Smart Price, Chosen by You and Extra Special private label brands.

PantoneLIVE’s centralised colour management system helps to achieve speed to market efficiencies from initial design to final production, thereby lowering product development and manufacturing costs.

While users of any manufacturer’s ink will be able to take advantage of PantoneLIVE, Sun Chemical is the preferred ink partner.

Esko, a global supplier of integrated solutions for packaging, sign and display finishing, commercial printing and professional publishing, is also a preferred partner supporting PantoneLIVE.
