Arla invests in cream sales

Arla Foods has invested £1.3M in new packaging to drive its fresh cream sales, working with key UK and European pot suppliers to develop the design.

New style cream pots, supplied by Wilsanco in Northern Ireland, are now manufactured from PP instead of PS, providing a more rigid pot, which can be gently squeezed and will not split. The pots also have a co-polymer coating, improving the sealant quality to the PET lid.

Lidding has been revamped and is now made from Sealtech-2 PET material, said to prevent tearing or puncturing and provide an improved sealant quality at lower processing temperatures.

The pots are now colour-coded to make it easier for consumers to identify the required cream type, feature a "visi-strip" and shrink sleeving. Over 90 distinct designs have been manufactured by Decorative Sleeves using gravure, CL flexo and UV flexo print processes.
