Wasatch IceWater in Utah has teamed with Ampac Flexibles – Converted Products to launch its 20,000-year-old artesian water in a16 ounce (473ml) stand-up flexible pouch – reportedly the first water to be sold across America in this pack format.
Ampac Flexibles says the launch combines Wasatch’s Park City IceWater brand – apparently a contaminant-free water created during the last ice age and sourced from a natural well near the Uinta Mountains – with “the latest in packaging innovation”, to offer consumers both purity and convenience.
The well, in Oakley, was found several years ago when testing showed it contained uncontaminated water, prompting the foundation of Wasatch IceWater Co. It was discovered half a mile below ground; scientists believe that, due to shifting of tectonic plates, earthquakes and other geographical occurrences, a glacier had been covered over and preserved “in a pristine state” for over 20,000 years.
The water now flows underground direct from the aquifer to the Wasatch plant at 41 degs, emerging “chemical-free”. The plant is claimed to be the industry’s first to bottle water under HACCP guidelines.
The pouch, printed in five colours front and reverse, is a proprietary flexible pouch combining PET and biaxially oriented nylon with a coextruded organoleptic inner layer. It also features Ampac’s SmartSpout pouch dispensing system, combining three Seaquist Closures components – a PE base fitment with a spout and a silicone valve topped by a tamper-evident, easy-to-turn, “swallow-resistant” closure.
