Amcor pulls the strings

7 March 2005

Haribo in Belgium has chosen StringPull, Amcor Flexibles' latest flexible packaging innovation, to add easy recloseability to its Dulcia Marshmallows.

The 1kg bags are being packed in a two-ply OPP laminate, printed 6-colour flexo at Amcor Flexibles Evesham and supplied with an inner polyethylene string extruded by Amcor Flexibles Gent. The string is sealable to OPP and runs with the packaging material into the VFFS packaging machine.

It is positioned at the side of the pack and sealed in the corner area at both top and bottom. The cross sealing jaw is vertically elongated and adjusted to enable a pre-cut to be made at the side of the bag. Amcor says this offers a very cost-effective easy-opening solution where the tear will always be guided to the bag's top.

Clear instructions show consumers how to tear off the corner of the bag and pull out the extendable string. The bag is reclosed either by squeezing and twisting the neck or by rolling down the top, and then simply wrapping the string around and tucking the end under.
