Alcan opens pharma site

16 June 2005

Alcan has boosted its packaging network with the recent completion of a new production centre dedicated to pharmaceutical packaging at its Alzira plant, near Valencia.

The centre will specialise in printing flexible packaging materials and embraces raw material reception, printing, slitting and packing.

"Through this investment, Alcan Packaging will offer a local supply of printed packaging material to its Spanish, Portuguese and locally-based multinational customers," says president and ceo Christel Bories.

Among its 180 operating facilities worldwide, Alcan Packaging has nearly 90 sites in Europe, which last year received US$204M in investments to "adapt and leverage their technical capabilities".

The first orders were run for the new Alzira facility's customers at an inaugural open day on June 9. Just six people operate the machinery in the new pharma facility.
