Ahlstrom introduces NatureMold biodegradable fibre food packaging material

3 March 2014

Ahlstrom has launched NatureMold, a new fibre-based, biodegradable moulding material for use as an alternative to moulds and trays made from plastic or aluminum in food applications.

According to the Finland-based company, NatureMold provides a range of features that benefit food processors and their brands, including heat resistance (up to 220°C), easy release, high wet strength, and superior grease resistance thanks to Ahlstrom’s “unique genuine vegetable parchment”.

Produced from renewable resources with FSC-certified pulp, NatureMold is also said to offer superior branding and differentiation properties through watermarking or dyeing with a range of hot food contact approved colours.

“The Ahlstrom NatureMold product line has great performance especially because of its grease resistance and easy release,” explains Omar Hoek, Ahlstrom EVP food.

“Its sustainability credentials are compelling as all the materials are from renewable sources as well as biodegradable.”

Ahlstrom’s Food business area is a global supplier of food packaging products with seven production sites in four countries.
