AGI sets up test facility

9 September 2005

AGI Labels has created a hi-tech "cell" within its south of England plant at Littlehampton so customers or designers can "test" their label requirements before printing (see also Labelling feature – p37-38).

The Digital Cell facility is equipped with an HP Indigo 4000 digital label press, X-Rite spectrophotometer and Digicom flatbed cutting unit with U/V coating system. Phil Smith, technical operations manager, says: "The technology enables our customers to do more than look at a one-dimensional design on a graphic designer's screen.

"The digital make-ready system removes the need for endless correction of proofs and the wasting of two or three days gaining approval for a label design – a massive time and cost-saving. We can eliminate the costly, messy platemaking stage, making the whole process almost an instant, one-stop operation - on-the-spot testing, approval, print and then delivery."
