Aerosol recycling campaign competition closes in on a winner

6 July 2009

The shortlist for the British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association (BAMA) and Local Authority and Waste Magazine (LAWR) best local authority recycling campaign that includes aerosols has been announced.

The four short-listed local authorities for the ‘Can Do Awards’ are Wigan Council, Scarborough Borough Council, Bradford Metropolitan District Council and Stockport Council. Representatives from all four councils will attend a luncheon on 7 July 2009 at the famous Mosimann’s restaurant in London where the overall winner will be announced.

Sue Rogers, director of the BAMA, says: “We wish to reward those local authorities who excel in communicating their aerosol recycling campaigns to their communities and we feel that the creation and launch of the Can Do Awards is a way of highlighting best practice in a really positive way.

“We know that over 75% of local authorities already recycle empty aerosols from households and we want to encourage the remaining councils to follow suit. We are also keen to encourage local authorities to spread the word about aerosol recycling as many consumers are not aware that they can recycle their empty aerosols with their other metal recyclables.”
