A key theme at the inaugural Active & Intelligent Packaging Industry Association (AIPIA) meeting – taking place during TokyoPack in Japan, 1-3 Oct – will be the commercial development of A&IP technologies in the West.
The Association believes A&IP can provide a “vital stimulus” to economic activity in the EU and USA particularly.
AIPIA director Eef de Ferrante says: “The Japanese have been using Active & Intelligent Packaging commercially for several year. This will help us speed up implementation in Western markets.
“It is a great opportunity to see, first hand, A&IP in action and meet companies who have actually ‘done it’.”
During the congress AIPIA will organise tours of local retail outlets to see how local supermarkets, shops, pharmacies and Japanese consumers use Active & Intelligent packs and how widely available and accepted the technology has become.
“Intelligent packs will add a new dimension to the way companies market their products, lock in customer loyalty programs or promotions and discover customer buying patterns,” says de Ferrante.
Extra security offered by Intelligent and Active packs will also guarantee quality and traceability, he adds.
An early booking discount for the congress will be available until 1 August.
Based in Utrecht, the Netherlands, AIPIA is a new trade association that already boasts more than 120 members from all sides of the industry, including major retailers; blue chip food, beverage, cosmetics and pharmaceutical manufacturers; leading packaging companies; speciality suppliers of A&IP products and services; and several organisations and media partners from the packaging sector.
