A wooly concept

A range of ‘green’ packaging and mail-order food boxes has been developed that uses British wool as natural insulation, claimed to keep farm fresh produce or frozen foods at below 5° for over 40hrs. The Woolcool boxes have been designed by Angela Morris of AMA Consultants as an environmentally-friendly alternative to the PS and PE boxes widely used by direct delivery food retailers. The boxes are made from recycled, recyclable, degradable and compostable corrugated cardboard, the wool being housed within a biodegradable food-grade wrap.

Angela Morris explained the birth of the concept: “The National Trust approached me in response to a demand from their tenant farmers for packaging to direct sell fresh meat using environmentally-friendly materials. Wool fibres have overlapping scales and absorb airborne water molecules, becoming an effective insulation material. Further research and testing indicated that this is the natural solution.”

Lateral thinking led to the evolution of Woolcool Thinking naturally
