A pack with vision

7 January 2003

A temporary storage and transit pack for Johnson and Johnson Acuvue daily disposable contact lenses has turned into a permanent, cost-effective solution thanks to a flexible design from Smurfit.

The lens manufacturers' original request was for a corrugated pack for use in opticians' shops until a moulded plastics unit became available. Smurfit won a long-term contract with a pack comprising individual drawer units divided into cells to hold the range of Acuvue contact lenses. The dividers can be moved to change cell size without disassembling the pack. An interlocking, modular design allows the creation of multi-drawer units.

E-flute corrugated board was chosen with branding information pre-printed on a white coated outer liner. A white Kraft inner liner gives an appropriate clinical appearance.

Smurfit supplies the units assembled and packed in outer cases ready for loading.
