Biome Bioplastics, a fully owned subsidiary of Stanelco, has launched the first of a
new range of bioplastics suitable for higher temperature applications such as hot and warm fill packaging.
BiomeHT 90 has a softening point of greater than 90 degreesC in dry and wet conditions. The company claims this exceeds the performance of alternative bioplastic products by 20-30 degreesC.
The ‘pioneering innovation’ has been tested in injection moulding and sheet/thermoforming applications with superb results and versatile in many sectors in addition to packaging, according to Biome.
It adds that the material made from ‘predominantly’ renewable resources and ‘fully recyclable’ benefits users with lower lifecycle costings and an ‘excellent’ end-of-life credentials.
“This is a major breakthrough in the development of bioplastics,” said Paul Law, MD of Biome Bioplastics. “It opens new markets and products to the opportunity of using a product with exceptional environmental credentials.”
