Yamato showcasing world class inspection and detection solutions at Foodex 2020

27 January 2020

Yamato Scale Dataweigh UK will be turning the spotlight on to some of its leading weighing machinery at the prestigious Foodex 2020 food packaging technology show in April. The bi-annual Foodex 2020 exhibition at the NEC is taking place from 30 March – 1 April.

Yamato will be demonstrating the vital role that X-ray and metal detection inspection, checkweighers and multihead weighers play throughout the food packaging process. The team will be located at stand P269 in Hall 20 where they will be exhibiting YX20 X-ray solutions, metal detection and checkweigher combinations and a range of its best-selling multihead weighing machines.

“We’re excited to be showcasing at the prestigious Foodex event again,” said Andrea Spencer, commercial operations manager for Yamato Scale Dataweigh UK.

“Our food industry customers are highly invested in both the process and machinery that keep their lines running. Foodex gives us a valuable opportunity to engage with them and discuss how they can best achieve their objectives with Yamato’s inspection solutions, checkweighers and range of weighing machines – particularly when it comes to complying with food safety and quality requirements.”

Fresh food producers have long been concerned with the compliance of their products to consumer health and hygiene regulations and to supermarket standards for quality and safety. X-ray inspection and metal detection solutions add an extra layer of checks at the end of the production line which help to ensure the quality and safety of the end product.

In addition, some food manufacturers have been hesitant to adopt automation due to concerns about bruising of delicate fruits – which has a negative effect on shelf life – and bags of product bursting – which can increase wastage and lead to hefty retailer penalties. Consumers are also strongly swayed by the visual quality of the produce – shape, colour and visual defects.

Solutions like Yamato’s Table Top Semi-Automatic Dataweigh can provide the perfect low impact solution for products that are delicate or fragile in nature.

And, thanks to its dimpled surfaces, EPSILON multihead weighers can handle sticky or fragile products. Large radius buckets and linear feeder pans are easy to remove without stopping the machine thanks to an auto-inhibit function so the EPSILON can be cleaned without expensive downtime. Intrinsically hygienic and safe in structure, the Dataweigh EPSILON is IP 66 compliant - making it ideal for harsh environments such as fresh produce factories or frozen food processors.

EPSILON is robust, with load cells that can withstand loads of up to 150 kg and easy to operate. A 10.4-inch colour touch screen displays user-friendly icons to enable effortless operation, while a wireless connection for smart phones and tablets is available to allow the user to check and operate the screen remotely. Up to 100 pre-set programs can be stored to memory.

“Yamato has considerable experience with packaging lines and in ensuring that product requirements align with automation processes” says Andrea.

“All the packaging and weighing solutions we develop are tailored to the customer’s products by our team of highly skilled engineers. Foodex is our opportunity to showcase how we apply our extensive knowledge to help solve customers’ processing problems.”
