Sharpak Aylesham snack pot launch targets healthy lifestyle market

14 April 2014

A new snack pot range design launched by Sharpak Aylesham is a response to a “surge in demand” in the UK for healthy snacks such as tomatoes, berries, cherries and grapes, according to the company.

The plastics packaging specialist says the new snack pots are gathering interest across Europe, and the company is now offering them to the UK fresh produce market alongside its other ranges, including SPT tomato punnets.

“The new range offers three options: a hinged pack and a pack with a separate lid, which is available in two heights,” says Ruth Price, business development director at Sharpak Aylesham.

Both are designed for automated filling, have a pop-up pressure opening system, and offer ventilation to allow the product to breathe, Price says: “The hinge pack also has drainage holes at the base, so the product can be washed prior to consumption, making it convenient for the consumer.”

Sharpak Aylesham is continually introducing new ranges to the market with differing sizes to meet the growing demand for smaller formats. According to the company, the UK snack products market saw an uplift of 8.3% in 2012, and consumers are now seeking to control portions rather than eliminating snacks from their diets.

“The UK snack food market is predicted to rise by 30.5% between 2013 and 2017,” the company says.

“In addition, the demand increase for consumers on the move, who are looking for healthier snack alternatives, means fresh produce companies are in turn demanding attractive and quality packaging solutions.”
