M&S have it in the bag this Christmas

20 November 2018

Marks and Spencer are set to lead the high street with the festive season’s most extensive range of ethically sourced, reusable shopping bags, as customers increasingly seek a more eco-friendly Christmas.

Designed as fashion accessories and to meet a variety of customer needs, the bags are made from natural fabrics and have been produced by leading innovator and ethical manufacturer, Jutexpo, the world’s biggest supplier of reusable jute, cotton and juco bags.

M&S has seen an increase in the number of shoppers using reusable bags and the range offers customers fashionable and fun Christmas gifts and gift bags which can be used for many years to come.

It is estimated that during its four year lifespan one reusable bag is the equivalent of up to 624 of the single use plastic bags which were commonplace in UK supermarkets until the introduction of the 5p bag tax.

The range is made up of seven different bags, with prices starting at £3.

With popularity increasing for all things alphabetical, cotton canvas bags, featuring every letter from A to Z are available alongside more classic designs featuring a worker bee and a mint plant.

Those looking for a firmer textured Jute bag will like the ‘Pet Bag’ featuring a stylish dog design and premium handle and the ‘Gardeners’ Bag’ which also includes six external pockets. For those looking for festive gifts, Juco bags are available in two designs, one featuring a reindeer and the other a FAB-YULE-US! print.

The M&S design team have worked hard to produce a range of bags to appeal to a broad customer base, with ethical production being key. This is the first time M&S has worked with Jutexpo.

Jutexpo operates to the Jutexpo Standard, which is a set of the ten key elements Jutexpo considers to be the minimum when it comes to ethical and technical standards, awards and credentials.

Sam Turner, compliance director of Jutexpo said: “We are delighted to be working with such a well-respected, high street brand and this Christmas range highlights how quality products can be made without compromising on ethical production.”

Jutexpo’s jute bag production rose from 5.5 million bags per year before the English plastic bag tax was introduced in 2015 to 8.5 million in the year of the bag tax and 7 million a year since.
