Gizeh Verpackungen has developed a new “ultra-transparent” plastic container for gourmet foods manufacturer Kühlmann in Germany.
Produced using injection moulded polystyrene to provide the highest possible tactile appeal, the new cups replace an injection moulded PP bucket design previously used by Kühlmann for pre-prepared gourmet salads in its premium own-brand line.
According to rigid plastic packaging specialist Gizeh, also based in Germany, the shape and design of the new ultra-transparent cup is inspired by a well-known type of preserving jar, with its strikingly wide rim.
A high quality finish in clear glass optic, is also intended to give the new design an authentic, handcrafted appeal.
“The deciding factor was that the customer would like to raise awareness of its premium own label brand using an eye-catching cup design in a high quality finish,” explains Frank Kriener, Gizeh manager sales and product development.
“With a clear-glass imitation finish, the new container stands out distinctly from the usual packaging design for gourmet salads.”
The wall thickness is configured in such a way as to keep the cup stiff and have a premium feel to it when held.
The cups – in three sizes, 150g, 350g and 600g – are labelled at the Kühlmann factory, sealed with foil and closed using a thermoformed slip lid.
The launch represents a move to full batch production by Gizeh of a concept initially unveiled at the Anuga food trade fair.
