Foodstuff at the point of purchase: displays are the international winners!

26 October 2018

The Czech Packaging Association, Syba, has awarded prizes to two display innovations from THIMM Group – the pallet display for baking sets and the counter display for biscuits. Both displays received the Obal roku in the category “POP & POS Displays”. The pallet display also won the German Packaging Prize.

Michael Weber, Head of Corporate Marketing at Thimm, is delighted about the awards: “Multiple awards for our displays demonstrate our point-of-purchase expertise. We use these types of displays to showcase the products and brands of our customers. This in turn increases awareness with end-consumers and ultimately sales. We are delighted for our developers in Wörrstadt, Northeim and Všetaty who have once again created successful designs.”

The awards ceremony of the internationally recognised Obal roku competition took place on 4 October in Prague, where all the submitted designs were exhibited during the packaging congress PackSummit. 13 jury members selected the winners in nine categories. The German Packaging Prize was awarded back on 25 September in Nürnberg. Awarded by the German Packaging Institute, this prize acclaims innovative solutions from the entire value chain.

Pallet display and outer packaging with a corrugated cardboard baking tin for the Sanella baking set

The display concept for Sanella baking sets has won Obal roku, the Czech Packaging of the Year Award and the German Packaging Prize in the “Merchandise Presentation” category. The 1/4 pallet display has been designed as a cake shape, thus reflecting the purpose of the baking set. The display-construction encourages the sell-through of one layer at a time. “As the associated outer packaging was self-supporting, the display only consisted of a few components,” explains Weber. “This led to a low material use and thereby minimal costs. The highlight of the triangular outer packaging was the integrated baking tin made from corrugated cardboard. This was made from white Thimm foodWave | heatproof, is fat-repellent and can be heated in the oven up to 220 degrees Celsius.”

Tasting mini-display for Zemanka Organic Bakery

The counter display for the Czech Organic Bakery Zemanka was awarded with the Obal roku. Biscuits are displayed in a corrugated cardboard display for a tasting campaign.

“In retail outlets, drugstores and organic shops, the tasting experience is an effective marketing tool,” says Weber. “Zemanka is winning over its customers with its high-quality bakery products which are placed in a bowl in the counter display. This can be exchanged after use which means the same display can be re-used for different types of biscuits. A blackboard is integrated into the front of the display to promote the biscuits on offer. The writing tools and information materials are stored in a compartment on the back. A natural style corresponding to the image of Zemanka Organic Bakery has been adopted for the small counter display.”
