Essentra AquaSense active labels prolong food freshness

28 March 2014

Essentra Packaging has extended its Protect brand protection range with the launch of its AquaSense, designed to help maintain and control the moisture content within food packs and ensure the goods are kept fresh.

According to the UK-headquartered company, AquaSense is its first Active Label Technology example, developed and jointly patented in conjunction with Essentra Porous Technologies.

AquaSense is activated by the consumer on opening a pack or tub.

An absorbent pad is placed under a tap to soak up a specific amount of water, and AquaSense then releases the water within the pack, keeping contents fresh, controlling humidity and reducing product waste due to goods drying out.

The AquaSense pad can be supplied in a variety of formats and sizes and is designed to meet the specific needs of the product it is protecting.

Options include high impact graphics and designs that can deliver a message on adding the liquid, interacting with the consumer and acting as a means of delivering promotional campaigns.

“This is a genuinely exciting development and we believe there are many potential applications out there,” says Martin Dallas, Essentra Speciality Technologies managing director.

“That’s why we want to hear from fellow innovators who can see the possibilities this offers, and we will be demonstrating at our shows and exhibitions this year.”
