Staying ahead of the pack

Knowing your market and keeping abreast of its growing needs is a key factor when designing and building ever more versatile and accurate labelling systems to keep up with an increasingly wide range of applications. Julie Foskett speaks to Premier Labels

Nowadays, designers are becoming more and more adventurous with packaging design in order to create that all important shelf appeal. As such, manufacturers are responding by using a wide variety of materials for both the container and the label, which brings with it a variety of new challenges to label application.

David Palmer, managing director at Premier Labellers, has over 30 years’ experience within the industry, and knows that his company can confidently provide the right advice and correct solution to handle any labelling application that its customers may have.

“People often under estimate how difficult it is to accurately and consistently label,” he says. “Labelling any product is really not so easy. The attitude can sometimes be that labelling is a simple process, when in reality it can be frustrating and often seemingly unexplainable. The ability to handle and control both the label and product prior to and during labelling is crucial to perfecting label application. At Premier Labellers we have established, over the past 20 years, a fine art in developing and refining each of our machines to produce consistently accurate labelling to meet every conceivable requirement that our customers might have. By understanding and recognising the pressures that the packaging industry is facing on a daily basis, and with a growing reliance being placed upon increasingly automated production lines, manufacturers have to be confident inthe equipment they are installing,” says Mr Palmer.

“All of our machines are designed and manufactured to British and CE standards. This not only provides a guarantee to our customers that they have invested in the highest quality labellers on the market; it also gives them the peace of mind that their machinery has been developed and built to last. By providing machinery of the highest standards, our customers can be confident that they are investing in a reliable, efficient and cost effective solution to their labelling needs.

“We know that each industry is different and that no one challenge is the same as the next. Our experience of the labelling industry covers cosmetics and toiletries; household and chemicals; meat packaging; food and drink; and pharmaceutical packaging.

“To satisfy the specific labelling requirements of these widely varied markets, our range of machinery has been developed and designed with the individual applications of each sector in mind. From having to achieve increasingly higher tolerances on label placement for the cosmetics industry, to machinery that can withstand the aggressive nature of the household and chemical working environment, Premier Labellers has developed a versatile and reliable range of self-adhesive labelling systems to suit all applications.

“At Premier Labellers we are acutely aware that we constantly need to be looking ahead at what our customers needs are, and with a rising global trend in counterfeit medicine production, we have developed the P105 in response to the pharmaceutical industry demand for track and trace systems. The P105 is designed to apply security, tamper evident, and vignette labels to the top of cartons at speeds up to 300 per minute. It also features a fully integrated inspection and validation system and is easily integrated into any production line.

“We know that buying a labelling machine is simply the beginning of a relationship with our customers. As such, we have a team of experienced engineers on hand to offer support and advice from discussing spares and servicing requirements to machine alterations or upgrades. So our customers can feel comfortable in the knowledge that we have the experience and the capacity to give them the help they need.

“For those customers that do not wish to make the capital investment in labelling equipment at present due to the current climate, or that have businesses affected by seasonal demands, we’re pleased that we are now able to extend our labelling knowledge and experience to these customers through our in-house contract labelling service.”
