Packaging Today in 2018

26 December 2017

It is always a good idea to look ahead, as another exciting year for packaging will be reflected in 2018’s contents. Next year, Packaging Today’s broad coverage will have a continued focus on events, popular sectors, the latest on market trends and much more.

Next year sees the continuation of a bimonthly print schedule that enables every edition of Packaging Today to be content rich.

A good start to the year

January/February’s edition will cover the Aerosol & Dispensing Forum and Packaging of Perfume Cosmetics & Design conference at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles from 31 January to 1 February. There will also be a preview of Packaging Innovations 2018, which will run from 28 February to 1 March at the NEC in Birmingham, UK.

Cosmetics will be the issue’s main topic, featuring alongside insights into flexible and plastic packaging, as well as a special report on storytelling in packaging branding and development.

A review of Packaging Innovations 2018 will follow in March/April with a GlobalData insight into the size of the food and beverage packaging market, together with its trends and consumer motivations. Features on closures, paper and coding and marking are going to appear too.

Key consumer insights

The May/June edition is going to have a broader focus of end markets, with a supplement on healthcare packaging, which will also cover trends in pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals and over-the-counter medication packaging, as well as market valuations and forecasts, insight into consumer motivations behind purchases and use behaviour. The luxury market, retail packaging, labelling developments and innovation are selected hot topics too.

In addition, there will be a preview of the upcoming Processing & Packaging Machinery Trade Association show in September at the NEC, plus a stand -alone feature on the importance of responsibility within packaging – a term that has been applied to sustainable packaging, but is seen as being a better definition of what brands hope to achieve when they implement lightweight packaging or reduce their emissions and environmental impact.

All about beauty

The summer edition in July/August is going to centre on health and beauty, particularly cosmetics and beauty packaging. Questions about the size of the market, its main opportunities and drivers will be answered by GlobalData, ensuring an accurate and credible forecast with actionable information. Features will also concentrate on trends and innovation in dispensing, and pharmaceutical, contract and child-safe packaging. More information will also be included about the Packaging Innovations 2018 and Luxury Packaging 2018 shows at Olympia London from 12–13 September.

Interesting look at robotics

A review of these shows will follow in the penultimate edition of the year, together with second looks at responsible manufacturing and paper packaging developments. September/October’s mechanical theme is going to include a robotics feature and a further article on machinery. This issue will assess trends that impact machine development to provide insight into major launches in 2018, with an emphasis on award-winning products or companies that have been recognised for outstanding innovation. Another editorial will concentrate on glass packaging.

Looking ahead

The final magazine of 2018 is going to round off the year with a market outlook and 2019 trend predictions. There will also be a sneak peak of upcoming content and a review of recent shows, including all4pack at the Paris Nord Villepinte in France on 26–29 November. Metal will be the central theme, with information on developments, market size, trends and news. An assessment on convenience packaging will also include information on how this trend is shaping choices for packaging materials and innovation. A piece on household packaging is then going to centre on market information, trends, consumer motivations and stand-out developments.

It is hoped that readers have enjoyed 2017’s content and are looking forward to hearing about another great year for packaging. As a final note, extra editorial covering design and expert viewpoints will be included in every edition. Please get in touch if there are any key design developments that should be mentioned in 2018.
