Packaging comes to Paris

28 October 2008

Packaging Today previews the Emballage exhibition, to be held at Paris-Nord Villepinte from 17-21 November

According to Promosalons, the organiser, the three themes of Emballage 2008 will be business, innovation and forecasting. It is believed that more than 100,000 visitors will attend, of whom 40 per cent are from outside of France, representing 142 visitor countries. Promosalons state that questionnaires at the previous event showed that delegates were primarily attracted by the show's pan-industry commitment, international exhibitors, machinery demonstrations and the unveiling of packaging trends.

It is expected that there will be 2,200 exhibiting companies, 53 per cent of which are from countries other than France. The split of exhibiting companies is 40:60 between manufacturers of packages/containers and machinery, equipment and related services.

Encompassing the trends

This year there will be international pavilions representing Belgium, China, Czech Republic, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Taiwan and Turkey and nine pavilions from across France. The BioMaterials Area will focus on biodegradable materials, whereas the Trends Area (Hall 6) will focus on the most outstanding new packaging concepts unveiled amongst the approximately 500 new products launched at each Emballage.

The PackVision Symposium

A highlight of the show will be the PackVision Symposium (Hall 6), the first International Package Design symposium. Packaging manufacturers, brands, design agencies and international companies will provide their expertise during a programme comprising approximately 20 presentations on such varied themes as eco-design, biomaterials and environmental labelling. Admission to the symposium will be free for all Emballage visitors.

The Plastic Eco Design Centre

Initiated by Allizé-Plasturgie, the Plastic Eco Design Centre combines the expertise of a Franco-Italian network regarding information, training and industrial development. Its objective is to provide assistance to companies on the design of plastic products, yet minimising the environmental impact. The Materiautech section will contain a range of plastic material samples. There will also be areas dedicated to prototyping and the recovery and recycling of end-of-life packaging.

There will be two supporting exhibitions in the Plastic Eco Design Centre - one on biomaterials and the other on eco-designed elements of the packaging world. There will also be a programme of related presentations that are free for delegates to attend.

Gold meetings

A new concept at Emballage, Gold Meetings is a new, targeted business-appointment service designed to bring together buyers and sellers at the trade show. Visitors simply post their projects anonymously at www.gold-meetings.com/emballage. Exhibitors can then respond and set up meetings at the exhibition.

The Packaging Observatory

Initiated by Emballage in December 2005, the Packaging Observatory was founded with the objective of providing a strategic, economic monitoring tool relating to the business prospects of the packaging-related industries in France. Produced in collaboration with the major trade associations, the latest version of the report will be available at Emballage. This will predict the industry's major prospects and challenges up to 2010.
