China event raises profile

12 June 2007

The continued rise of ProPak China illustrates the growing importance of the Chinese market to both suppliers and buyers overseas

ProPak China 2007 will be the show's biggest ever, with over 500 companies represented, taking-up 30,000m2 of floor space - almost a third up on last year - which makes it the largest trade event for the processing and packaging industry in China. Now in its 13th year, the show also incorporates BevTek & BrewTek China and DairyTek China, and last year attracted over 13,000 visitors, with 15% of them coming from overseas.

ProPak China 2007 has the support of international pavilions from Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Taiwan Region, UK and USA and for the for the first time the FPSA - the US association of suppliers of equipment, packaging, ingredients and services to the food, beverage and pharmaceutical processing industries - is officially supporting the event.

According to Vera Fritsche of the German Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Association (VDMA): “The Chinese packaging market is increasingly difficult. More and more Chinese competitors are entering the market. For the German companies, it becomes more and more important to present their packaging solutions to the top decision makers and observe the market. . . Exhibitors of the German Pavilion in 2006 were highly satisfied with this exhibition”.

Brendan O'Connell Jennings, general manager, of China International Exhibitions, organiser of ProPak China said, “ProPak China has been attracting major buyers from China and increasingly from overseas as well. Last year, we successfully launched the Business Matching Programme (BMP) where we matched buyers with exhibitors according to their sourcing needs. Buyers that participated in the programme were happy that their trip was very focused and time was spent on quality meetings; exhibitors benefited by knowing in advance buyers' needs and requirements and had time to prepare their sales pitch. We hope to attract more participants to this value-added programme this year.”

Running alongside the exhibition will be a series of conferences covering packaging and processing for pharmaceutical & medical products, confectionery, snacks and dairy, as well as a beer summit and a session on canning techniques and trends.

International pavilion support: German Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Association (VDMA), Instituto nationale per il Commercia Estero (ICE), Vicenza Fiere, Japan Packaging Institute (JPI), Japan Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Association (JPMA), Korea Packaging Machinery Association (KPMA), Taiwan Association of Machinery Manufacturers (TAMI), Processing & Packaging Machinery Association (PPMA), Food Processing Suppliers Association (FPSA) and the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI).
