Disappearing caps
M&H Plastics has launched a biodegradable material that can be used in moulded caps, to offer positive environmental benefits ‘where that product is unlikely to be recycled’, says the company. An oxobiodegradable blend works by breaking down polymer chains to make them brittle to promote degradation in 5-10 years.

Sealing gaskets
Approval for the monomer 3-methyl- 1,5-pentanediol has been granted by the European Food Safety Authority for use as a comonomer in the making of polyurethane sealing gaskets for metal closures intended for contact with all types of foodstuffs packed in glass jars and bottles.

SIG owner buys US Reynolds Group
The Reynolds Group takeover by Rank group’s Beverage Packaging Holdings, owner of SIG Combibloc, is due to take effect. The acquisition includes Reynolds’ Closure Systems International (CSI) Group, a manufacturer of caps and closures for drinks.

Double gold for Impress
Impress was a gold award winner twice over at the Cans of the Year event in Dubai. PowerClick applied to a twopiece can simply clicks several cans together, to provide consumers with easy transport and handling, reclosability in the home, and savings in secondary outer packaging. The Easip innovation is said to be the world´s first peelable steel end suitable to sterilise through continuous retorts.
