Food producer United Biscuits claims it has reduced packaging volumes of its products by 13% since 2003.

The UK food manufacturer said a 17% reduction in the thickness of films for its snack products has avoided 200 tonnes of packaging material.

The bags for mini biscuits have been cut by 30% in volume, decreasing total volume of packaging by a further nearly 22 tonnes.

The food producer said it is aiming for a 20% reduction in packaging by 2015.
