PPMA

Dr Mike Randall, chairman of checkweigher and metal detector manufacturer Lock Inspection Systems, has been elected president of the Processing and Packaging Machinery Association for 2004-2006. He succeeds John Clayton, managing director of Newman Labelling Systems, who remains on the board as immediate past president.

Linpac Plastics

Linpac Plastics has appointed 48-year-old Pierre Thumerel as its new director of films. Taking over from Bernard Baucher, who retired late last year, Thumerel has extensive management experience, having worked in senior sales, marketing, logistics and planning roles with companies including Mobil Plastics Europe and ExxonMobil Chemical Films Europe.

Sharp Interpack

Rejoining leading thermoformer of rigid plastic food trays Sharp Interpack after spells with Dolphin and Sealed Air Cryovac, Bob Hayes has been appointed market manager for the company's meat and protein packaging business. Hayes previously worked for the firm in the 1990s.

CRP Print & Packaging

Allan Booth, who brings with him extensive financial and print technology expertise and a track record of growing businesses through partnerships with international brand owners, has joined Corby-based point-of-sale and packaging printer CRP Print and Packaging as managing director. Peter Sangster, managing director since a 1984 management buyout, becomes chairman.

Viscose Closures

Viscose Closures has appointed Ray Bruen as regional sales manager, caps & closures. He joins from Clifton Packaging, where he was innovative business development manager, having previously been international key accounts manager at Tetra Pak.

EMEA

Chief executive officer of the £35m Bradman Lake Group Graham Hayes has been elected chairman of the Engineering and Machinery Alliance, comprising six associations representing over 1,000 firms operating in value added engineering. Hayes has held senior positions in packaging companies on both sides of the Atlantic for 20 years.

Limpet Tapes

End-of-line packaging specialist Limpet Tapes has appointed Andrew Phillips to lead its coding and marking division. The appointment of Phillips, who has nearly 15 years' sales and R+D experience in the field working for leading manufacturers, coincides with a new trading agreement with Domino Printing Sciences.
