Weidenhammer reports steady 2013 growth

28 April 2014

The Weidenhammer Packaging Group has reported an 18th consecutive year of positive growth in 2013, with overall sales revenues rising by around 2.5% to €251 million.

Weidenhammer Packaging Group (WPG), Europe’s leading supplier of composite cans, composite drums and plastic containers, describes the economic situation in many European markets as remaining “critical”, but says its success in 2013 allows the company to further invest in innovations and to expand its product portfolio in 2014.

The company’s focus is on extremely impermeable barrier packaging for food, as well as new developments such as its NaturalCan a composite can produced using sustainable materials.

“There was no guarantee of a positive balance,” says WPG CEO Ralf Weidenhammer. “The market environment continues to be difficult, especially in Southern Europe.”

In addition, Weidenhammer explains, WPG’s retail customers are still under price pressure, and there are significant cost increases for personnel and energy.

“We are pleased that with few exceptions almost all of our international organisations reached or even exceeded our sales targets.”
