Unisource Worldwide completes Pakit Sweden acquisition

17 August 2012

The assets of Pakit Sweden – a leading international developer of moulded fibre solutions for the packaging industry – have been acquired by sustainable packaging solutions developer Unisource Global Solutions.

The acquisition by UGS – a division of US-based Unisource Worldwide – includes the purchase of equipment that uses cellulose fibres to manufacture moulded fibre packaging, which can be used to replace plastic trays, bottles, containers, carriers and other conventional petroleum-based packaging.

The equipment is also said to use “considerably less energy than current packaging processes” and reduce the use of water and emissions.

“This acquisition builds upon our commitment to be a world leader in providing cutting-edge design, technology, research, manufacturing and ongoing innovation to the packaging industry,” says Unisource Worldwide CEO Al Dragone.

“It also improves Unisource’s capability to be more responsive to our customer needs in the sustainable packaging area.”

UGS president Gary Miller adds that the moulded fibre manufacturing equipment acquired will expand the company’s production resources “to drive the next generation of packaging solutions to meet the industry’s growing interest in sustainable packaging on a global basis”.

Unisource Worldwide, Inc., headquartered in Norcross, Georgia, is one of the largest privately held companies in the US, offering a comprehensive suite of customer solutions – including engineered design capabilities, eBusiness technologies, logistics expertise, paper brokerage services, and environmentally-responsible options.

The company also markets a full line of commercial printing and business imaging papers, packaging materials and systems, and facility supplies and equipment.
