UK packaging companies scoop environment awards

27 June 2012

Three packaging businesses have been selected among 15 UK companies as recipients of recognition in the highly regarded annual Business Commitment to the Environment Awards.

In the 2012 awards, presented in late June, Major Commendations went to Vegware and The Less Packaging Company in the SME Premier Award category, and the Wool Packaging Company in the Product and Service Innovation Premier Award category.

Founded by Sir Peter Parker in 1975 and managed, sponsored and administered by UK businesses, the BCE Environmental Leadership Awards are given to companies that the judges recognise as: “Meeting the commercial demands of the present, without compromising the environment for future generations”.

BCE Awards president Sir Anthony Cleaver said: “Companies such as The Wool Packaging Company, The Less Packaging Company and Vegware are leading the way in sustainable packaging solutions that could revolutionise how we package goods in the future.

“Such ingenuity is proof that commercial success can go hand-in-hand with environmental excellence.”

WRAP (the UK government-backed Waste & Resources Action Programme) is the lead sponsor of the 2012 BCE Awards; main sponsors are AEA, Brunswick Group and E.ON.
