Two buyers for Polish corrugated business

A corrugated packaging business in Poland has become the launchpad for European expansion for its new German and Spanish owners.

Germany’s Thimm Verpackung and Spain’s Saica are buying the corrugated packaging division of Tektura Opakowania Papier (TOP), with a 51% stake and a 49% stake, respectively.

The move into the Polish market is consistent with Thimm’s growth plans in central and eastern Europe. The Northeim-based business has factories in the Czech Republic and Romania. The plant in southern Poland will help it serve much of Poland and neighbouring export markets, it says.

Saica also has ambitious expansion plans for corrugated business in Poland. “The acquisition is part of Saica’s long-term strategy to become a global player in Europe,” says Susana Alejandro, managing director of Saica Pack.

General manager of TOP Packaging Division Jeremiasz Zaleski is “delighted” that two international companies, both of them new to the Polish market, will be investing in Tychy to increase capacity and its widen capabilities.

TOP’s paper and board divisions are not part of the deal.
