The secrets of effective onboard packaging unwrapped at the World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo

WTCE, 14 - 16th April, Hamburg Messe, Hamburg

Good packaging design not only reflects the quality of the product inside, but also the personality of the company serving it. When looking at the packaging needs of products, specifically designed for use onboard airlines and trains, further considerations need to be made such as size and ability to withstand altitude.

Onboard products need well designed, attractive, yet functional packaging while food, drink and onboard retail gifts should reflect the same high-standards passengers expect to find on the high-street.

The latest packaging trends for items specifically designed to be sold onboard airlines and trains from some of the biggest companies in the world are set to be explored in-depth at this year's World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo (WTCE) when it returns to Hamburg on 14 - 16th April 2015.

The world's largest event dedicated to travel catering, passenger comfort and buy-on-board products, WTCE is the principal meeting place for professionals from across the air and rail travel industry to network and discuss new business partnerships.

The 2015 show brings together specialists offering a wide variety of products and services from across the globe, with more than 50 exhibitors specialising in onboard packaging. New exhibitors to this year's event include Henan-Hengtai Aluminium Technology, which specialises in R&D of all kinds of aluminium foil food packaging products. The company will be showcasing its range of foil containers and pop-up aluminium foil sheets. Another first time exhibitor, British manufacturer Colpac Ltd will demonstrate its innovative food packaging solutions. Exporting to over 50 countries, the packaging company offers products with green credentials and exceptional design expertise.

Returning packaging exhibitors to the show this year include Albéa, offering the world's largest beauty and personal care packaging and Easysnap, an innovative patented and revolutionary single use packaging concept for liquid products. With its one hand opening system, Easysnap can replace any conventional container from 1 to 30ml or more.

Product packaging is also the subject of one of the sessions at this year's Passenger Experience Conference when specialist consultant Ariane Van Mancius takes a closer look at trends in onboard food and drink packaging with six key trends to watch. She'll also talk delegates through regional approaches and how clever airlines translate retail trends into onboard experiences.

Archana Sharma, WTCE Event Manager commented: "WTCE brings together innovations from across the entire travel catering and onboard services industry, with packaging innovations no exception to this. The specialist packaging needs required within the sector means that companies looking to launch into this lucrative market can gain valuable insights at the show into making this a reality."
