Tetra Pak machine to target UK on-the-go market for co-packer Framptons

9 October 2012

Anticipating increased demand, particularly in portion packs for on-the-go consumption, family-owned contract packing firm Framptons Limited has invested in a new Tetra Pak A3/CompactFlex iLine.

The Somerset, UK-based company, which specialises in packaging fruit, dairy and dairy alternative products, says it has witnessed a 45% increase in contract pack volumes over the last year, as well as an increase in enquires for these services, many of which have come from start-ups, product innovations and product line extensions.

On this basis, the company selected a Tetra Pak A3/CompactFlex iLine – the filling machine for Tetra Brik Aseptic and Tetra Prisma Aseptic packages, ranging from 200ml to 330ml.

The machine – part of the iLine range first launched by Tetra Pak in 2008 – can accommodate a variety of cap systems and closures including the new DreamCap, and is designed for flexibility to easily change between different package volumes and shapes.

Allan Staples, Framptons commercial director, says: “More and more people are drinking when they are out and about. This change in consumption behaviour means people want and need different things from packaging.”

Portion packs, and DreamCap particularly, he says, have been specially designed with on-the-go users in mind.

“We are excited that our new line means we can offer this packaging format to our existing customers as well as other brands that might be interested,” Staplers adds.

Kate Woolley, key account manager at Tetra Pak, comments: “In extensive consumer testing Tetra Prisma Aseptic cartons with DreamCap significantly outperformed other competitors, so we are delighted that Framptons has the capability to offer this packaging format to its customers.

“The package is easy to grip and instantly recognisable, with its unique eight-sided shape. With metallized and non–metallized printing options, the carton can carry distinct designs which reinforce on-shelf differentiation.

“On top of this, DreamCap’s innovative design ensures the ultimate drinking experience; it is more comfortable to drink from, quicker and easier to open, and importantly can be re-sealed.”

The new Tetra Pak A3/Flex iLine will be fully operational at Framptons by the end of Q1, 2013.
