Tetra Pak launches separable plastic Tetra Top

3 February 2014

Tetra Pak has announced the launch of Tetra Top with Separable Top, an innovation said to enable consumers easily to detach the plastic top from the carton sleeve, allowing for separate recycling.

According to the foods packaging giant, a pre-cut perforation on the outer layer of the cardboard sleeve of a carton allows the consumer to separate the plastic Tetra Top from the sleeve with a simple press of the thumb.

This is achieved without affecting the functionality of the Tetra Top package, the company says.

Charles Brand, Tetra Pak vice president marketing and product management, says: “The innovation of Tetra Top Separable Top is a response to consumers’ increasing demand for better solutions to facilitate recycling, especially where waste management infrastructure calls for it.”

Tetra Pak describes Tetra Top as a package that “combines the convenience of a bottle with the contemporary look and feel of a carton package”, suitable for chilled products and ambient still drinks.

The option of Separable Top is made available for customers at no additional cost. According to Tetra Pak, Arla Foods in Denmark and Sweden has already introduced Tetra Top with Separable Top into its product range.
