In the UK, STM Polythene, the Norwich-based manufacturer of polythene envelopes and packaging, trading as Sefton TransMail, has merged with Shirlplass of Northampton, a manufacturer of packing film, bags and specialist plastic products.
Esther Evans is to be managing director of the combined business, with Mark Dodge the general manager of Shirlplass, continuing to run the Northampton site. The transaction allows Nick Cansdale to retire from Shirlplass after 30 years of running and owning the company. Commenting on the merger Evans said Shirlplass is well developed in markets that STM is not represented in and vice versa. With the two sites, film manufacture, printing and converting of a wide range of products and formats are all now available in-house.”
The combined business has also acquired KT Supplies, a strong brand in e-commerce packaging sales on www.packagingproductsonline.co.uk. Evans commented “The integration of the KT operation will allow us to enhance the STM e-commerce function to offer a one-stop shop for all packaging and mailing requirements.
