Sonoco Protective Solutions is to open a new manufacturing facility in Mexico to meet growing demand for its moulded foam products, in an investment worth "up to US$10.5 million".

Sonoco will build the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Celaya, Guanajuato to produce moulded foam products for the automotive, aerospace, industrial, appliance and medical markets, creating more than 200 new manufacturing jobs when the plant is in full operation.

The new facility is currently under construction with production scheduled to begin by late 2013.

“This new plant will allow us to better serve our customers in Central Mexico and better position us to capitalise on the tremendous growth that is occurring in the region,” says Vicki Arthur, Sonoco’s vice president global protective solutions.

Sonoco Protective Solutions is a leader in the North American market in highly engineered, custom-designed moulded foam components and packaging.

Parent company Sonoco is a global provider of a variety of consumer packaging, industrial products, protective packaging and packaging supply chain services, with annualised net sales of approximately $4.8 billion.
