Smurfit Kappa completes Chain of Custody certification

8 March 2013

Packaging materials can now be traced and the Chain of Custody certification guarantees that no unsustainable material has entered the supply chain, enabling Smurfit Kappa to assure its customers that its packaging is produced from solely sustainable raw material.

With operations around Europe and the Americas, the company says the programme is in line with its long-term sustainability commitment and covers 19 European countries where Smurfit Kappa is present.

“By completing our Chain of Custody certification programme for our entire paper mill system as well as all relevant packaging operations in Europe we…show our ambition to be the leader in every aspect of our business,” says Smurfit Kappa COO Tony Smurfit.

“We believe that Chain of Custody certification throughout the entire chain should be the standard in our industry.”

Smurfit Kappa is one of the leading producers of paper-based packaging in the world, with around 41,000 employees in approximately 350 production sites across 32 countries, and sales revenue of €7.3bn in 2012.
