Sherwood Press provide solution for Morrisons online offering
Packaging manufacturer, the Sherwood Press Group have worked closely with Morrisons to provide a solution for the retailer's first to market online offering of fresh cream cakes.
Sherwood's creative team developed a packaging concept for Morrisons core cake shop lines that combined with their existing clam shell packaging enabling the cake products to sell through Morrisons new on-line ordering and supply chain.
The products include an apple turnover band, victoria sponge band and fresh scone gasket retaining optimum visibility of the cakes and enhancing the 'market fresh, shop bought' attraction that Morrisons are renowned for.
Sherwood's Packaging Sales Manager, Chris Waplington commented: "The bands and the gasket enable Morrisons to deliver premium, non damaged cake shop products through the challenges of their new online ordering and delivery system. This was achieved through robust testing within the Morrisons supply chain with refinements being made to maximise protection of the product in transit, without altering the presentation or ease of packing."
On the solution, Morrisons' Packaging Development Manager Steve Jackson said: "Sherwood responded to the brief with a brilliantly simple design and we're very pleased with the outcome - customer satisfaction remains consistently high."
The designs were developed at Sherwood's Nottingham site within the Smartcentre, the new innovation hub that house the Group's creative team, along with an investment of £250,000 in new equipment, which includes the latest large- format UV flatbed inkjet printer and Kongsberg XN digital CAD cutting device.
