Sharpak Aylesham launches ‘flexible’ alternative pear packaging

22 November 2013

Sharpak Aylesham is launching a “one size fits all” multi-purpose plastic packaging solution for pears, designed to cut packaging waste.

According to the rigid plastic packaging specialist, the new packaging was developed in response to an original brief from supermarket chain Tesco, which required a multi-purpose pear packaging solution for any size and variety of pear.

“The new flexible tray was designed in-house and has the ability to hold four pears, of any size,” says Rick Calcott, commercial director at Sharpak Aylesham.

Sharpak Aylesham is now supplying this new packaging solution to a UK fresh fruit importer who helped develop the tray, which is used exclusively for Tesco.

“We have not compromised on the protection the fruit needs for transit to store, and the unique design is eyecatching and innovative for consumers,” says Calcott.

“The design also enables Sharpak Aylesham to pack more trays per box, thus reducing the environmental impact in transportation.”

Sharpak is a member of the Guillin Group of companies and claims to be the UK’s leading designer and manufacturer of thermoformed rigid plastic packaging for food and non-food use, operating from three BRC-approved sites in Aylesham, Kent; Bridgwater, Somerset; and Yate near Bristol.
