Food and foodservice packaging provider Seda UK is receiving support from the Welsh government for planned investment of £18 million over the next 5 years at its facility in Blackwood, South Wales.
The company says it will invest in new plant and equipment, with the potential for an additional manufacturing unit, in order to meet growing demand for its products, and the investment will also facilitate Seda’s product innovation programme.
The move, which will receive £5.4 million business finance from the Welsh government, will create 70 new jobs and safeguard more than 170 existing posts at the site, according to the company.
Seda UK’s Blackwood site won out in competition with other European plants in the Naples-based, privately owned Seda International Packaging Group for the investment project.
“Our company has experienced progressive year on year growth since its relocation to Blackwood and the new investment is critical in helping us meet existing and future contracts,” says Seda UK managing director Lorenzo Angelucci.
“The proposed expansion underlines the long term commitment of Seda to its Welsh facility and will benefit customers, suppliers and employees alike as well as the local economy.”
Seda established its plant in South Wales in 2004, and this latest tranche of investment will take the total amount invested since 2010 to over £70 million.
