Sealed Air launches Instapak iMold foam system

Sealed Air has released a new fully automated packaging system, Instapak iMold, designed to increase productivity whilst maximising protection.

Described as “a unique breakthrough in the packaging industry”, the Instapak iMold uses patented foam dispersion technology to create a customised fitted foam packaging cushion, which is moulded into the exact shape and size of the product.

The technology guarantees cushion consistency and integrity by dispensing Instapak foam only where it is needed, while also eliminating excess waste.

The Instapak foam can expand up to 200 times its liquid volume, which the company says will improve productivity and vastly reduce the cost of handling and storage.

The system is also extremely simple to use: the operator simply inserts the mould and selects the number of cushions, and the Instapak iMold does the rest.

The system automatically identifies the mould, draws the expanding foam-filled bag into the cavity, and the foam takes the shape of the mould. The cushions are ejected automatically and can be used immediately or transported to the nearest bay using a conveyor system.
