'Salute to Excellence Awards' for organic peas in combisafe carton pack from SIG Combibloc

'Bio Sonne' organic peas in the carton pack combisafe from SIG Combibloc have now been awarded the 'International Salute to Excellence Awards' in the 'Organic Food' category at the PLMA World of Private Label international trade show in Amsterdam. The prize was given in recognition of the successful overall concept consisting of an excellent organic product in environmentally friendly packaging.

For almost 30 years, the international PLMA event has been the annual meeting place for retailers and manufacturers looking for product innovations, ideas and contacts to help grow their private label programmes. This year, there were more than 4,000 exhibit stands. As part of the trade show, the international 'Salute to Excellence Awards', which honours the outstanding engagement of retailers for their private labels and recognises innovations in the private label sector, was awarded. In the run-up to the event, the PLMA invited retailers and manufacturers to nominate products they considered innovative. This year, 70 retailers and manufacturers applied, with a total of 360 products in the categories food, health, beauty and household products.

The international jury for the selection of the 'Salute to Excellence Awards' winner was made up of industry consultants, specialist media representatives, catering professionals and scientists who, based on their expert knowledge, awarded points in the assessment categories Product Concept, Appearance, Taste, Texture, Aroma, Packaging & Presentation, and value for money. The 'Bio Sonne' organic peas in combisafe 440 ml, filled by food manufacturer Jütro GmbH | Konserven und Feinkost, scored particularly highly in the Packaging & Presentation category.

Volker Bubacz: "Carton packs have an array of advantages over alternative packaging solutions for canned products. The major strengths of the carton pack are its convenience, its product protection qualities and its good environmental characteristics. Carton packs have been proven to be among the most environmentally friendly packaging solutions for long-life foods. And in terms of logistics and advertising effectiveness on the sales shelf, carton packs clearly outperform competing packaging solutions. In addition, carton packs from SIG Combibloc are naturally free from Bisphenol-A".

All kinds of variations, precise measuring
combisafe from SIG Combibloc is suitable above all for chunky foods and food products that do not flow freely and therefore cannot pass through a pumping system and an aseptic process - such as vegetables and pulses, fruit, convenience foods and stews. Through the use of modular filling units, including a high-precision multi-head scale, a hugely diverse range of products can be filled in the combisafe carton pack - the size and quantity of the chunky product ingredients can vary in virtually any respect and they can be measured out precisely. After the products have been filled into the carton pack, the carton top is sealed ultrasonically. In the next stage, the carton packs are automatically conveyed into an autoclave, which can be either static or rotary. In the area of long-life food carton packs, the use of rotary autoclaves is a world first. The autoclaves, in which package and product are sterilised together, guarantee maximum product quality, and due to the continuous movement of the carton packs during heating they also make it possible to fill and process certain products in the first place - above all highly viscous foods containing extra-large particulates. combisafe is available in 200, 300, 400, 440 and 500 ml volumes. All volumes can be filled on a single SIG Combibloc filling machine.
