RLC invests €15m as pharma sales on the up

9 September 2013

The RLC Packaging Group is investing approximately €15 million in production technology at several of its plant sites in 2013.

According to the Germany-based specialist folding carton company, the investment is a response to industry trends toward smaller print runs and higher quality finishing.

New equipment includes three Heidelberg printing presses in 0B format with up to eight colors and dual coating.

RLC continues to expand and is tailoring its portfolio to the requirements of clients in the Beauty, Pharmaceutical, Food and Luxury goods sectors.

The family-run company reports sales in the first half of 2013 up by 25% at the company’s Pharmacenter in Berlin, and by more than 15% at BSC, the company’s subsidiary in Poland.

“These figures confirm the success of industry specialisation,” the company says.

RLC is committed to further bolstering its pharmaceutical division, with additional Pharmacenters near Zurich, Switzerland and in Russia, where negotiations with a potential new partner, resulting from a BSC majority share, are said to be already under way.

“We are pursuing this strategy in our other target industries and are investing in state-of-the-art technology to expand our sites and their ability to serve specific industries,” says RLC Packaging Group chief executive Hans-Christian Bestehorn.

Since early July 2013, RLC has been producing exclusive premium packaging with a new Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 106-9-LYYLYY-1 at its plant in Aachen, Germany.

Described as “highly efficient and environmentally sustainable”, the machine is UV equipped and can print up to 18,000 sheets/hr.
