Through its BSC Drukarnia Opakowan subsidiary, RLC Packaging Group has completed expansion of its BSC Pharmacenter plant in Poznan, Poland.
According to the Germany-based specialist folding carton company, an investment equating to about €4.3 million for the construction of a new production facility and warehouse has resulted in a doubling of capacity at the BSC Pharmacenter, which now has more than 4,700sqm of floor space.
In addition to labels and package inserts, the BSC plant – its second pharmaceutical packaging centre – started producing folding boxes for the pharmaceutical industry in April.
Two die cutters and two gluing machines were installed at the site in late March, and three presses will be relocated from the company’s main plant in Poznan to the new facility.
BSC’s “highly-efficient” packaging production includes the packing of folding boxes and leaflets, and just-in-time distribution.
The company says its finishing is “rapidly gaining importance” for non-prescription, over-the-counter products, using finishes that have “rarely been used in the pharmaceutical industry”.
Offering packaging design services provided by Brandpack, the RLC Center of Excellence comprehensive packaging design service, The Poznan Pharmacenter is now said to cover the complete packaging value chain for the pharmaceutical industry.
“The expansion of the packaging plant, which is the focus of our pharmaceutical industry activities, is part of the RLC strategy to achieve sustainable growth in Eastern Europe,” explains BSC chief executive Janusz Schwark.
In the current fiscal year, BSC expects Pharmacenter sales to reach 35 to 40 million zloty (€8.3-9.6m), and the company is already planning further investments in 2014.
