Quinn machine investment targets rigid packaging market

18 August 2012

As part of its development strategy to become a “major player” in rigid packaging for food, Ireland-based plastic packaging company Quinn Packaging has purchased a Kiefel KMD 85 thermoformer.

The machine is the first significant packaging machinery investment made by the new Quinn Manufacturing Group, and complements the company’s existing bank of KMD 85 thermoformers.

“The Quinn Group has undergone a major corporate and financial restructuring in the past 18 months,” says Charles Shaw, managing director for Quinn Plastics & Packaging.

“This investment demonstrates to the industry that this process is now behind us and we are now focusing on the future with great optimism as we look to continue our growth and development in the packaging industry.”

Commenting on the company’s increased capacity to serve the food markets, Quinn Plastics & Packaging sales & marketing director Jeremy Sampson adds: “This additional machine, which is fully compatible with our existing tooling, will allow us to increase our significant market share in meat and poultry trays, and to build supply to the mushroom punnet sector, which we entered seriously at the start of 2012.”

Quinn Packaging is part of the Quinn Plastics & Packaging division of the Quinn Manufacturing Group, which also includes a container glass division, a domestic radiator division and a construction industry supply division.

With a 19,000m2 production facility in Ballyconnell, County Cavan, the company manufactures a range of packaging products, including rigid packaging for the food industry (meat/poultry trays, mushroom punnets, dairy spread containers and thin gauge sheet for form, fill & seal applications), and flexible packaging for industrial and agricultural applications (shrink and stretch hoods, silage wrap and strapping).
