Quantec robots pick up top design award for Kuka

23 July 2012

Kuka Robotics has won a coveted ‘best of the best’ award from the Red Dot Institute in Germany for the KR 270 R2700 ultra, a high payload robot from its Quantec range.

From an original field of 4,515 entries to the 2012 competition, the KR 270 R2700 ultra – suitable for a variety of tasks from packaging and order picking to handling, welding and machining operations – was one of only 60 products to win a ‘best of the best’ award, out of 1,058 products given a ‘Red Dot quality seal’ for outstanding design.

Kuka also secured a second Red Dot accolade for another model in the Quantec series, the KR 240 R3100 ultra K.

The company says the Quantec range has been “specially engineered to produce lighter, faster and more efficient models”, described as “the most compact and powerful in their class”.

The range consists of 15 basic types covering a high payload range from 90-300kg with reaches from 2,500-3,100mm.

The robots are said to deliver better performance, shorter cycle times and greater accuracy thanks to their “streamlined design and lighter components”.

This autumn, Kuka Robotics UK will showcase the Quantec series at an open house event at its headquarters in the West Midlands.
